A lot of roofing scam artists often will roll through town following a major storm, so beware of people coming door-to-door asking to take a look at your roof. Look close enough and you can see their out-of-town license plates on their work vans. In some cases, storm chasers bamboozle homeowners out of money without ever finishing the job. Other times, shoddy workmanship nullifies the manufacturer's warranty or actually damages the existing roof structure.
There have been instances where workers get hurt on the job and sue the homeowner who did not know the fly-by-night contractors were uninsured.
